Vodafone, a British multinational telecommunications company, aired this delightful one-minute commercial in 2015: “How to Raise a Turkey for Christmas.”
Turkeys are complex emotional beings who we humans should definitely *not* be eating for Christmas — or for any other meal.
In a recent email from Farm Sanctuary, I learned that mother turkeys practice collective childcare, watching all of their children as a group. I also learned that turkeys recognize each other by their unique voices. Researchers have identified nearly thirty distinct vocalizations in wild turkeys!
Each year Farm Sanctuary offers a feast for their turkey residents to enjoy. This year I watched it virtually (with footage at both their New York and California locations), and it was very touching. You can view the 9-minute video here: Celebration for the Turkeys: A holiday feast prepared just for the turkeys.
If you are not yet vegan, please spend a little quiet time reflecting on these magnificent birds, and then I sincerely hope that you will go vegan very soon!
