I love death… but only natural death, such as autumn leaves falling from the trees. I really do not love unnatural deaths, which occur by killing and violence, such as animals being slaughtered and fish being hooked.
Today is the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, and I so adore this season. I love watching the leaves change into my favorite colors of red, orange, gold, and brown, and I enjoy crunching the dried leaves whilst walking barefoot.
As I contemplate the natural death and decomposition processes of living things, I feel closer to the spirit realms. Of all the seasons, autumn feels the most magical and mystical, as we can witness the alchemical transformations of nature moment by moment. Death meditations can bring us deeper into the aliveness of our spirits right here and now on this sacred planet Earth.
I believe that our brother and sister animals also enjoy being alive. I believe that they have spirits just like us humans. And modern science tells us that they feel pain and pleasure, just like us humans. Thus, I know that it is wrong to abuse them and to kill them. That knowing came to me in meditation, which set me on the vegan journey twelve years ago.
Today I celebrate the changing of seasons, and the changing of consciousness. I salute all of my fellow vegans with incredible gratitude. Thank you to each and every vegan for choosing the vegan journey.
If you still eat the flesh and fluids of animals and fish, please meditate on their lives and their spirits. After contemplating the feelings of the animals and fish, I really hope that you will join us on the vegan journey!
